Nigeria National Accreditation Service, NiNAS, has been accepted as an Associate Member of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) on 20 June 2018.
After being Affiliate Member since December 2017, NiNAS gained the Associate status upon fulfilling the established criteria. These requirements include providing evidence of operating accreditation schemes for testing and calibration laboratories.
NiNAS has committed to comply with relevant standards established by international standards bodies such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the obligations of the ILAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement. NiNAS has also committed to provide services as decided periodically by the ILAC General Assembly.
This Associate Membership in ILAC benefits the Nigerian economy by providing trusted accreditation services to the industries and institutions. With this global recognition, NiNAS can now provide cost effective accreditation to conformity assessment bodies in Nigeria, as well as support to the ECOWAS regional accreditation system in harmonizing and strengthening accreditation in ECOWAS member states.
Nigeria National Accreditation Service was established in 2015 within the framework of National Quality Infrastructure Project for Nigeria (NQIP), funded by the EU and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). NiNAS has so far assessed 15 laboratories in the scheme of Testing, Calibration and Medical. Three accreditation certificates have been issued to three laboratories located in different parts of Nigeria.
